Telltale Games’ The Walking Dead Season 2 Is Revealed

It doesn’t seem to matter what form it comes in, people just can’t seem to get enough of Robert Kirkman’s The Walking Dead series. The comics, the TV series, and even the video games. Okay maybe not the Activision one based off the TV series (let’s just repress that) but last year’s episodic titles from Telltale Games had people flipping their shit over how good it was. I don’t think I’ve seen so many social media posts about people crying at the end of a video game before. Now Telltale is ready to, hopefully strike gold again with today’s The Walking Dead Season 2 announcement.

The new season will continue to follow the young orphan, Celmentine as she struggles to survive in a post-apocalyptic zombie wasteland and will launch in November for home consoles, PC/Mac and iOS, with more platforms TBA. (I wonder if there are any new consoles coming out in November…) If you pre-order all 5 episodes of the new season now on Steam, you’ll save yourself 10%, bringing the total to $22.49.

Telltale also announced a Game of the Year Edition of the first season that folks will be able to pick up in November as well for $29.99 that includes the “400 Days” DLC.

The teaser trailer after the jump should give you enough to whet your appetite for next month’s release and we’ve got a few more images you can check out of Screenshots and Box Art in the gallery too!

Honored announces it’s Indiegogo Campaign

Until today Honored was a very secretive little gaming start-up based in the Bay Area. With the launch of their Indiegogo campaign they are letting us in on their plans and offering some exclusive rewards for backing the final stages of the project.

An exclusive shirt design for Honored’s Indiegogo backers.

So what exactly is Honored you ask?In a nutshell it is an achievement tracking program for gamers. It differs from achievement tracking already in place via services such as PlayStation Network, Xbox Live, and Raptr in that it provides physical tokens in the form of badges to commemorate elite achievements and special events.

A look at Honored’s beta badge design.

Now gamers can show off their prowess irl at competitions, events, and on the street. Is your interest piqued? Want to learn how to “Get Honored”? Check out the Indiegogo campaign and sign-up to the newsletter on the Honored website.

Retro Special This Monday with the Retro Magazine Kickstarter Crew

retro mag

Unlike the Boogerman kickstarter I talked about earlier today, there are some projects out there that I can get behind. Take Retro magazine, for instance. A group of veteran gaming journalist types getting together to make a high quality magazine about the games we all grew up on.  These guys have a serious catalog of talent backing this thing and if there’s one thing that all gamers seem to agree on, it’s that we all love our retro games. I’m sure there’s a nostalgia factor in there blurring our jaded, cynical adult side, but it would be hard to argue we don’t all enjoy a good trip down memory lane every once and a while.

And it’s not all just going to be old school. Retro is going to feature interviews with top developers, and reviews and all sorts of other good stuff that you as a gamer will want to geek out on. On next Monday’s Geeks of the Roundtable show we’ll be having some members of the Retro crew come by to chat about classic gaming and pimp the project to all you fine viewers out there, including the president and founder of Retro, Mike Kennedy! So be sure to tune in Monday at 1pm PT. And in the meantime you can check out the retro kickstarter here and go like their Facebook here.

Give your Wang the Axe!

Shadow Warrior - Walking Dead 1

The revamped version of Shadow Warrior is getting some more bonus weapons for the Halloween season. Starting today, you can now download yourself a zombie-killing axe from TellTale Games’ The Walking Dead series. So now on top of cameos from Saints Row’s giant purple dildo bat, Serious Sam 3′s sledgehammer and Hotline Miami’s Katana, you’ve got yourself one of the quintessential zombpocalypse survival weapons. Devolver Digital CFO, Fork Parker was pretty pumped about the whole thing: [Read more...]

PS4′s Day One Patch Ain’t So Bad

The big two drop their new consoles next month and as Sony and Microsoft vie for you money and affection, one factor has yet to be fully determined: “Who will require the least amount of patching and updating day one before I can actually use my machine?” The answer may very well be “Sony” as it turns out most of the features you’d actually want to use on a PS4 will already be installed when you buy the console. There will be a small download of about 300 MB, but that’s it. If you want to broadcast or enable the remote play feature, you’ll need the patch. But here’s all the stuff that actually works out the box:

  • Remote Play
  • Online Multiplayer
  • Blu-ray and DVD movie functionality
  • Second Screen (play on a PS Vita or other device)
  • recording, screenshots, and gameplay uploads
  • gameplay broadcasting
  • download as you play functionality
  • multiple log-ins
  • face recognition
  • background music

The suspend/resume low power feature is one of the only promised features that will not be available at launch and will be coming in another patch later on. And if you want to get second screen functionality on something other than a Vita, be sure to download the Playstation APP for your phone, which should be available a few days before launch.

Boogerman Kickstarter is a thing for some reason

Booger and Jim

Remember Boogerman? It was a short lived franchise in the early 90′s about a garbage man whose super powers were his bodily functions. Flatulence and booger picking were on the menu for the Genesis/SNES, ahem, classic(?). Now, for some reason, the folks behind the original game think it’s time for Boogerman to return and have launched a rather ambitious kickstarter to get it relaunched.

I wasn’t sure this was going to make it to its funding goal, and frankly, I wouldn’t be too horribly sad if it didn’t. But now they’re busting out an enticing offer involving a celebrity cameo to drive up funding. Earthworm Jim has just been announced as a playable character in co-op mode. Well, thank god Boogerman is getting a kickstarter while one the actual greatest platformers of the 16-bit era is resigned to being his sidekick.

But here’s the real kicker, the co-op mode and Jim are add-ons that have to be purchased in your donation range in order to guarantee you won’t have to pay to unlock them later. They’re not just included in the full game. Yeesh!

Recently the team behind the even more obscure James Pond series tried to launch a crowd-sourced sequel to much failure. As of now, the Boogerman KS has almost $28,000 of its $325,000 dollar goal with 26 days left to fund it and I haven’t been seeing that number go up dramatically. Still, if you’re so inclined, you can go here and fund the kickstarter. But maybe if this fails, they’ll wise up and give us the Earthworm Jim sequel we actually want.

Here, Have Some Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc Screenshots

Do you like murderous bears? How about screenshots? Well, today is your lucky day! Because we’ve got screenshots of a video game involving an adorable sociopath of a bear! Coming to the US via NIS America, Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc will be making its way to the PS Vita early next year. I’m not quite sure what category of strange JRPG this is going to fit into yet based off the screens, but if it’s anything like the other titles NIS puts out. For now, our only details come from the press release: [Read more...]
